There is strong evidence that people live longer and happier lives in supportive and loving relationships. Most of us seek out long lasting and stable relationships, but in today's increasingly busy and constantly changing world more relationships are breaking down than ever before.

Relationship problems can affect any of us, whatever our age, whether we have been dating 5 months or married for 25 years. Some problems are present from the start of a relationship and never get fully resolved. Other problems may develop over time; different approaches to raising children, decisions over finance and personal growth can all become relationship spark points.

Relationships can be intrinsically difficult - bringing two different people together with their own quirks, beliefs and needs is a challenge for most of us and making a relationship work requires sustained effort. Most people who experience relationship breakdown realise in retrospect that there were signs and signals that things weren't working.
